BACKGROUND: https://www.khwiki.com/Terra
PERSONALITY: Hit by a Car and Dumped in the Trash, But This Pigeon isn't Giving Up.At his core, Terra is a kindhearted and loyal person towards both his own goals as well as those he holds dear. His life had been dedicated to the cause of training for the title of Keyblade Master alongside his two best friends, Aqua and Ventus; this honour is only bestowed upon those who prove themselves to be completely capable of maintaining the universal balance between the forces of both Light and Darkness. However, their mentor and his own father figure, Eraqus, isn’t one so easily impressed. Master Eraqus held the belief that the perfect balance between the two forces of life was to have one’s own Darkness to be next to none. Despite well intentions, this was still a highly unhealthy mindset to be raised with; Terra took these teachings to heart nonetheless, leading to lifelong self-repression of most negative aspects of himself. He grew to resent and ignore the growing negativity within himself rather than learning how to address and channel such feelings healthily, and has trouble voicing his own self doubts to those who he wouldn’t expect direct answers regarding them from. Any negativity within himself he considered to be shameful, and it would be best to leave it unspoken rather than have others see him as anything less than strong and reliable.
Secluded from everything but his master and friends for most of his life, Terra’s rather sheltered mindset can easily come off as naive; he’s willing to believe the best in others and always assume that people have well-intentions behind their actions, which some have been known to take advantage of. Self-discipline is an important trait that Terra holds himself to as well, and with both this fact as well as the one mentioned prior, Terra has a tendency to blame himself with most matters that turn sour with his involvement before blaming anyone else. He holds respect for figures of authority above him, both familiar ones as well as those he doesn’t know very well.
Thus, when the day comes for both himself and Aqua to test for their long-sought goal of the title Master, Terra blames himself when Eraqus fails him. A failure given due to a manipulated flare of his own dark energy, orchestrated by a guest present at his exam. Disheartened though not discouraged, Terra is determined to show Eraqus that he can prove himself better through the task given to him shortly after, believing this to be a show of trust from Eraqus despite his own failure; when it comes to light later that Eraqus had actually instructed Aqua to keep an eye on him for his own wellbeing due to the potential threat of darkness, Terra’s crushed at the thought that neither his father nor his friends actually believe him to be capable of even handling tasks on his own. He ends up turning his back on his friends for quite some time due to this, leaving his self-deprecating state vulnerable to heavy emotional manipulation.
The standard Terra holds himself to isn’t so much unattainable as it is unhealthy; at the first notion of harnessing the negative energy within himself to harm another person, Terra considers himself a failure of all teachings Eraqus had raised him on, and comes to terms with the fact that he can never return home and face neither his father nor friends with a clean conscious. Despite this though, when Terra does come face to face with Ventus soon after, he doesn’t voice such; he prioritizes placating Ven’s worries above his own anguish, showing again how unwilling he is to make his own issues his first concern in the face of his friends.
Or rather, in the face of Ven.
Ventus came to be their friend and fellow pupil quite some time after both Terra and Aqua had been studying under Eraqus. The two older students had been more familiar with each other thus, and there’s a certain foundation of underlying trust between them; they aren’t afraid to speak the truth with one another, and this solid trust between them inadvertently leads to many miscommunications. Terra is more likely to make assumptions when it comes to Aqua because he believes himself to have such a strong understanding of her, and with such easily believes that she holds the same blame on him that he holds for himself. Her words of warning come across instead as displeasure and scolding, only for both of them to turn around and try to reassure Ven when he approaches with his own doubts; this demonstrates the difference in how Terra conducts himself with those he considers perfect equals, and those he wishes to protect. Eventually though, Terra’s own negativity becomes so overwhelming that another takes it for his own control, using it as a means to possess Terra’s body and mind.
Not everything about Terra is crippling self-doubt and anguish, though. Terra’s willpower and determination to endure for the sake of those he loves is strong enough to leave behind a phantom that enacts upon his desire to protect Aqua and Ven in his place, showing how true his desire for their safety is. His heart maintains its light thanks to the hope and love he feels towards them as well, even as it’s suppressed under the force of another’s heart trying to maintain dominance over his body with darkness instead.
Over a decade later and after his very being having been torn in half and slapped back together, at long last, his own love wins out and he manages to once again take ownership of himself.
Terra’s been shown to be playful, often teasing Ventus about various matters. Creative to an extent as well, having made a wooden replica of his ideal keyblade years before summoning his own. The novels bring about the fact that he dislikes sweets, a trait none of his companions share which results in his own pouting.
Terra is an emotional and well-meaning individual, finally on his own road to self recovery.POWERS/ABILITIES:Aside from
the abilities inherent to all keyblade wielders, Terra has
his own unique fighting style that suits his skillset.
INVENTORY:[ Earthshaker (keyblade) ]
[ Keyblade Armour ]
[ Orange Wayfinder Charm* ]
*At the end of KH3, all of the wayfinder charms are left with Master Eraqus's gravemarker in the Land of Departure, as the trio has all finally found their way home together at long last. Because they venture to the World of Darkness again during the DLC a year later, it's purely headcanon that he's taken this charm again for the journey, and thus carries it here.
